The New Adventures of Wonder Woman, or simply Wonder Woman, was an ABC show that debuted in 1976, then switched to CBS in the fall of 1977. Wonder Woman was a sequel to the long-running children's television show Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.

Plot

Lynda Carter starred as the titular character, who changed her name to Wonder Woman and moved to an apartment in New York City. While never specifically referred to on Wonder Woman, it was implied that Wonder Woman had left Dyna Girl after a nasty breakup. (Dyna Girl did not actually appear on the show but would often call up on the apartment's intercom requesting Wonder Woman's help with some super-heroic adventure).

Season 1

In Season 1, Wonder Woman fell in love with her neighbor Steve Trevor (played by country music legend Porter Wagoner). Due to the many super-villainous types hanging around 1970s era New York, the two had little time to consider romance. The two eventually married each other in the season finale, to avoid problems with the Immigration Department over Wonder Woman's origins on Paradise Island.

Seasons 2 and 3

Following the marriage, the show began focusing more on the domestic side of Wonder Woman and less on her heroic feats. Gradually, ratings for Wonder Woman began to slide as viewers complained of "less fire and explosions" and "too little sexy stuff". In Season 3 a young Debra Winger was brought in to play the role of "Wonder Girl", a potential romantic rival for Steve Trevor. By this time Wonder Woman looked more like a soap opera or telenovela than a show about a comic book hero. In 1980 CBS mercifully pulled the plug on the show.

Prequel

In an effort to restore Wonder Woman's canon, ABC aired The Wonder Years starting in 1988. The Wonder Years attempted to explain Wonder Woman's many plot holes and lack of continuity by focusing on her mysterious past. This effort was largely successful, and restored much of the public's faith in Justice League Unlimited.
