WGN

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

WGN is a cable network created for the sole purpose of broadcasting the games of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls.

In 1996, the executives realized that they were left with 21 hours of dead air per day. The dead air was filled with endless repeats of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That schedule remains to this day.

While known nationally as a cable superstation, WGN broadcasts over the air in Chicago. Like many broadcast channels, the station's call letters are an abbreviation. WGN's call letters stand for White Giant Nads in honor of late Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray.
