Originally produced by Disney co-founder Walt Disney, The Wonderful World of Disney showed Disney's vision of how wonderful life would be if he were allowed to turn the United States of America into a giant theme park. The show also occasionally showed nature documentaries, usually featuring bears being goaded into running off cliffs by drunken crew members.

Success in the 1980's

After the founding of The Walt Disney Company by Walt Disney and Steve Jobs, The Wonderful World of Disney turned its focus onto America's glorious past. Former Presidents such as President George Washington, President Davy Crockett and President Abraham Lincoln Burrows were made to seem like heroes weekly, as the show became almost like a miniseries or possibly even a telenovela. Whatever their format, these films were popular and were even cited as part of the reason for the success of President Ronald Reagan in the 1980's.

Under Michael Eisner's reign during the 1990's, The Wonderful World of Disney lost much of its focus. The movies began to feature many of the stars of The Mickey Mouse Club such as Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. Most episodes began to look like MTV's show Total Request Live. Eventually, the show was reduced to a half hour and showed badly produced anime featuing characters from the video game "Kingdom Hearts".

The Future of The Wonderful World of Disney

Since the return of Steve Jobs to the Disney empire, The Wonderful World of Disney has been shown only rarely, leading to speculation that it may have been cancelled. Jobs has not commented, saying only that he has "big plans" for the show to be revealed "really soon".
