The Milton Berle Show

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

The Milton Berle Show was a 1950s show featuring Milton Berle, back in the days when everyone and his brother had a variety show. The show is notable for featuring the scariest Berle caricature ever, in the opening credits, which also featured some of the strangest theme song lyrics ever.

After which, Berle himself would be introduced in some type of dress, with "UNCLE MILTIE" scrawled across it in huge felt letters. Berle's crazy antics on the show were enough to get him banned on most television networks, and many men and women tried to shield their children's eyes from the cross-dressing Berle.

Halfway through the show's run, "Uncle Miltie" changed his first name to Buick, and the show was renamed The Buick Berle Show. Finally, in an attempt to tell viewers that nowhere in the series was Berle even mentioned, the show's title was changed once again to Your Show of Shows, and femme fatale Imogene Coca was brought on as a model. Nothing worked. In 1956, the show was gone.

Theme Song Lyrics

Bear witness to the most unusual and irrelevant set of lyrics ever.

"Oh, we're the men of Texaco
We work from Maine to Mexico
There's nothing like this Texaco of ours!

Our show is very powerful
We'll wow you with an hour full
Of howls from a shower full of stars.

We're the merry Texaco men
Tonight we may be showmen
Tomorrow we'll be servicing your cars!

...And now, ladies and gentlemen...MILTON BERLE!"
