The Jack Daniels Goodtime Drinkin' Hour

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

The Jack Daniels Goodtime Drinkin' Hour was a musical variety show on CBS between 1969 and 1973. Broadcast live from West Virginia, the show was hosted by country music legend Jack Daniels, who was usually drunk at the start of the show and would get even more liquored up as the evening continued. The Jack Daniels Goodtime Drinkin' Hour featured a number of guest performers each show, most of whom were puppets hired by producers Sid and Marty Krofft. Also making appearances from time to time were such musical artists as The Osmond Family, Johnny Cash, Jethro Tull, Randy Jackson of the Jackson 5, and William Shatner. Daniels, who had a series of hit songs at the time (mostly about his relationship with his cousin/sister), would perform as best he could considering his inebriated condition.

While ratings for The Jack Daniels Goodtime Drinkin' Hour were always high, concerns about the deteriorating condition of the host caused CBS to cancel the show in 1973. After a failed attempt to market his own personal line of whiskey, Daniels entered rehab in 1976. Cured of his personal demons, Daniels gave up his musical career to become a humble preacher for the religious right.
