The Bugaloos

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

The Bugaloos was an early 1970's children's television show produced by Sid and Marty Krofft. The Kroffts went to England and held a singing competition to find the four best musicians in the British Isles. The lucky winners were flown to America, stuffed into butterfly costumes left over from the previous Halloween, and told to "make some music". The psychedelic atmosphere and substance abuse problems surrounding the brothers Krofft didn't help matters. However, drummer Billy Barty overcame all the obstacles to write the hit song "Video Killed the Radio Star," which later became the first and only music video shown on MTV.

Despite the popularity of The Bugaloos, legal problems with the producers of The Beatles forced the Kroffts to had over all their profits to NBC and end production after only one season. The show was massively retooled into its popular sequel, Wonderbug.
