TeeVeePedia:Futures
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
So, this site started out as an April Fool's Site by TeeVee.org. It is rapidly expanding (as we guessed it would) into a community-written bizarro world of satire, comedy, and completely incorrect facts.
Current Plan!
My current plan is to do a systematic walkthrough of the site in May along with other volunteers, marking pages as essentially "finished", deleting/expanding pages that are kind of worthless, and generally getting the site in shape for the final, official "snapshot" version.
At that point we can keep it up or not, but it definitely seems that the site is winding down. So I thought we might set an unofficial "closure" date beyond which it may disappear. Thoughts? Regis 17:11, 27 April 2006 (PDT)
- I'd recommend keeping it going for at least another month, so that we can have all sorts of fun when the new Fall schedules are announced in mid-May... --Davidscarter 17:22, 27 April 2006 (PDT)
Oh, also: someone should create a "featured articles" category -- that way, you can all nominate featured articles. From those I will select some to add to an updated version of the Main Page, so that it links to the best of the post-April 1 content on the site. Regis 17:18, 27 April 2006 (PDT)
- Done, although I don't know if I was funny or detailed enough. Looking at how things have slowed down, I guess a locked "snapshot" is all right. I enjoyed having a shot at writing serious articles. --RTOlson 03:18, 3 May 2006 (PDT)

I was initially amused by TeeVeePedia, particularly at the depth of stuff you guys had put into it. However, once I figured out that it was still evolving and that the Vidiots AND other readers were continually helping it spiral out of control, I was REALLY hooked. I'd say giving it a few weeks would have a high potential for hilarity as long as you guys can shoulder the admin duties. Clearly there's some unfunny people attempting to sully TeeVeePedia so unlocking it all will likely lead to chaos at this point. With the rate at which some of these entries expand, though, I'd love some more time to see what happens.
In fact, I was wondering if we could ultimately get some stats on how many pages were there for launch, how many you guys end up with (at whatever arbitrary cutoff time you choose) and just generally how much things changed. This is cracking me up. --Lilserf 4 April 2006
Personally, I think the site should stay up. If the editors can handle it. I'm enjoying the making things up process quite a lot. --Norabombay
I would certainly advocate for leaving TeeVeePedia up. I can certainly see a need for locking some pages for a period of time to prevent people who don't get the joke from ruining things, but if the Videots or volunteers can police things that should work out nicely. I can see the joke running its course, and I probably should not approve of this particular time suck continuing to exist, but for now I think the community here gets the joke and is really developing a nice little co-op humor thing. Maybe we could set up a Standards and Practices page if problems develop to discourage competitive humor wars, but as far as I'm concerned, keep it up. --BStu 18:16, 4 April 2006 (PDT)
Please keep TeeVeePedia up and open--I'm having too much fun to quit! (And besides, what else could I do when home all day with a head cold...) --Davidscarter 19:01, 4 April 2006 (PDT)
I agree with the foregoing. Please keep TeeVeePedia active and developing. It is one of the funniest sites I've have ever seen on the 'net. Today at work, I had to leave my office while reading the recaps of 24, because I couldn't hold back the laughter, and I knew that tears would follow. Eventually I fell into a friend's office, laughing uncontrollably, unable to catch my breath to explain my condition. This is the kind of site that is rare on the web, and God knows we need to laugh more every day. I've never contributed to a wiki site, this entry is my first one. I felt it important enough to create an account here to add my comment. To the creators of this site, thank you, please continue creating more brilliant content. --podbay 04 April 2006 20:59 MDT
I'm enjoying the site & adding my own input, for what it's worth. Leave it unlocked for too long and it might start taking itself too seriously, or, you know, something. I guess the ultimate message is that I have nothing useful to contribute. --C. Joseph
I think the style is pretty much established. I'd keep it up. Mtvcdm 23:01, 4 April 2006 (PDT)
My preference would be to keep it going but to lock down the original entries. They are too funny to let anyone edit.--Bill37212 07:00, 5 April 2006 (PDT)
I agree that it could be just left up, with some of the main entries locked, and others open. If you wanted to carry on admin duties, or if others of us were willing to take them on. It's fun to be part of this.--Icelimbo 5 April 2006
I'd like it to be kept up if possible, and running it as it is is fine. Maybe rotate which entries are locked for editing and sanity purposes. Locking the originals is fine though. --Thundarr 08:12, 6 April 2006 (PDT)--
For what it's worth, the pace has slowed down a bit from the first few days. I have a feeling things will ultimately settle within a couple of weeks. --Lilserf 11:28, 6 April 2006 (EDT)
I would vote to keep a version of it going as long as it's fun to the Vidiots and users. It's been hilarious reading through what others have contributed beyond the funny original. It might be worthwhile to protect a handful of pages to preserve certain jokes and to keep it from getting "serious."
Like with the Deep Space Nine entry -- I'm sure you and I both know DS9 aired before Babylon 5. I can understand why my "joke" rationalizing the "fact" that DS9 is a B5-ripoff wouldn't necessarily work. That page might need to be protected if a jerk like me kept trying to add a lame joke. - RTOlson --207.231.0.106 14:06, 8 April 2006 (PDT)
- The problem I have with the DS9 stuff is that while I don't believe that the Trek producers actually knew of B5 and tried to rip it off, B5 _was_ in development before DS9, and its pilot movie aired a month after DS9 premiered... but the larger point is, Straczynski has made such a big deal over the years about DS9 being a B5 ripoff that it's comedy fodder. Whereas, in my opinion, defending the virtue of the Star Trek producers is more of a comedy killer. But that's just my take. Regis 15:50, 8 April 2006 (PDT)
- I understand. It was probably too "inside baseball" to be very funny except maybe adding time travel. To me, it's an example that there are some not-so-humorous paths we could travel down if the site keeps going. -- RTOlson 207.231.0.106 18:22, 8 April 2006 (PDT)
