Sports
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
Ever since the days of the ancient Olympic Games, Sports and sporting events have been a major distraction to civilization. This, of course, makes them nearly perfect for televison. Most people believe that the first televised sports event was the 1908 World Series (an event which many critics claim didn't happen, since television hadn't been invented yet). Since then, sports has kept more people, mostly men, asleep on the couch since the invention of cheap liquor. Today, many television networks owe their existence to sports...that, and betting on sports.
