MTV2 was MTV's second attempt to launch a successful cable television network that only played music videos. It worked about as well as the first attempt. Over the years, MTV2's format has had more relaunches than NASA's Space Shuttle.

MTV2 currently shows reruns of shows that were dropped by MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and other cable networks many years ago. MTV2's extensive library of music videos, second in size only to the YouTube video library, gets aired once a year on April 1.
