Love Boat: The Next Wave was an alleged sequel to the classic television series The Love Boat. The series began in 1998 on ABC, but since producers' intentions were to completely wreck the franchise, it moved to UPN.

The Cast
- Capt. Jim Kennedy III (Robert Urich): An ex-Navy commander with a heart full of gold and a mouth full of fillings after being repeatedly punched out by his teenage son.
- Danny Kennedy (Kyle Howard): The teenage child from Hell.
- Dr. John Morgan (Corey Parker): A sea doctor who specializes in singing "It's Not Easy Being Me" from the movie Popeye and giving resident female passengers "the clap."
- Chief Purser Will Sanders (Phil Morris): A former yeoman-purser until he got his ass sued by Gopher Smith and now has a hard job putting peoples' valuables in his own purple purse.
- Bar Manager Paolo Kaire (Randy Vasquez): The smooth-talking Mexican who really didn't know how to fix crap.
- Cruise Director Suzanne Zimmerman (Stacey Travis): The ship's original cruise director until she quit because she was tired of the bar manager making advances towards her.
- 2nd Cruise Director Nicole Jordan (Heidi Mark): The second cruise director, who was half-man/half-woman, half-black/half-white, and had a tendency to walk backwards and forwards at the same time.

Demise
The show met its end in May 1999 after Gavin McLeod staged a "No Shine, No Prime!" boycott rallying against Urich, who had a full head of hair.
