On home improvement shows, actors play licensed contractors and show how you could remodel your house into the home of your dreams--if you weren't such a klutz, that is. You'll just end up with a large hole in your ceiling and/or 18" of water in your basement.
It is believed, though it has never been proven, that home improvement shows are a conspiracy among the various plumbing and electrical unions to drum up repair business.
