Bums

Bums is the polite term used to describe unemployed actors and/or actresses. Bums began moving to California during the 1930's looking for jobs in the entertainment industry. Spurred on by talk of plentiful positions in the movies, radio and television, bums usually end up in fields picking the crops that even Mexico's finest guest workers won't touch. Some bums, disillusioned, turn to food, sex and drugs. Others become television writers or even producers on rare occasion. Most bums, though, hang around the major TV studios waiting for the next big project to show up.
