Boilerplate
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
Boilerplate is a robot that originally appeared on the children's television show Captain Video and His Video Rangers in the 1950s. Originally named "Tobor," he found a better name for himself after the show was cancelled and went on to become the official mascot for the DuMont Network.
Boilerplate has also had a guest-starring role in many miniseries, as he served under actor Pancho Villa ("under" used figuratively, not literally) during Mexican Revolution and also became Richard Nixon's assistant during Vietnam War.
Sadly, during a 1985 Antarctic expedition, Boilerplate fell through some thin ice. His fellow travellers reported lightning bolts flying up out of the spot where he fell. Boilerplate was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on May 13.
In memoriam, the DuMont Network showcased repeats of Captain Video until their rebranding as Fox in 1986.
