2006 Midterm Elections

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

With their Fall 2006 schedule not living up to expectations, television producers realized they needed a smash hit, and fast. Thus was born the 2006 Midterm Elections, a one-night special event modeled after their decades-long smash hit Campaign!

With the event scheduled for November 7, 2006 (right during Sweeps), the network began promoting the heck out of the show, running numerous advertisements in all major markets on television, in print, on the radio, via direct mail campaigns, and numerous robot phone calls. As the days progressed, the advertisements took a curious turn, as the potential contestants for 2006 Midterm Elections began calling each other names.

Fox in particular promoted 2006 Midterm Elections heavily, hoping to recover from the major ratings disappointment of Major League Baseball - 2006 World Series. But when November 7th rolled around, network executives could only look on in horror: Not only were the ratings a disaster, but dark horse contestant Nancy Pelosi ended up winning the whole thing with her rendition of "Burning Down the House." The networks vowed to never again try a midseason special of this sort, and began plans for the 2008 edition of Campaign!
